I’ve been at Howard Lorton for more than 20 years, but I’ve always been interested in design. I got a real sense of fabrics and textiles and design when I worked for a haberdashery. Whether I’m working with Traditional design or Mid Century Modern or Contemporary, I believe in lasting elegance, so there’s a timeless feel. It’s about design that has soul.
It’s my job to streamline the process for my clients. To listen to what they want, and love. To ask the right questions. Then I present a concise package of options that fit. We have thousands and thousands of fabrics to choose from, and furniture from the finest manufacturers. Our showroom is enormous. It can be overwhelming, and people are busy. That’s why you work with a designer.
I get my inspiration from every person, every place and every experience. I’m always learning. I love to look at magazines, but you have to pay attention. What are the hot colors? Which colors will end up dating your design, and which will last? The nature of magazine design is that the look is dated by the next issue. You have to sift through it and find the design elements that will stand the test of time.
